When your store sees hundreds or thousands of customers a day, your EAS system needs to perform without false alarms and without missing real threats. Here’s why AM (Acousto-Magnetic) EAS is the technology of choice for busy retail.
AM (Acousto-Magnetic) EAS systems operate at 58 kHz — a frequency that is highly resistant to electrical interference from metal shelving, fluorescent lighting, and the dozens of electronic devices customers carry. This is the single biggest reason AM dominates supermarkets, hyper stores, and high-volume retailers worldwide.
AM pedestals can detect tagged merchandise up to 1.8 metres between antennas, compared to roughly 1.2 metres for most RF systems. In a store with wide entrances or shopping trolleys, that extra range is critical — it prevents ‘gap’ areas where stolen goods can slip through unnoticed.
Electrical noise from fluorescent tubes, motors, shopping trolleys, and even mobile phones can trigger false alarms on RF systems. AM is largely immune — meaning your staff aren’t embarrassed by constant beeping, and real alarms get taken seriously when they sound.
Supermarkets, hardware stores, and bottle stores are full of metal — shelving, fridges, beer crates, and the product itself. AM tags work reliably in these environments where RF struggles.
AM hard tags are physically more robust, and AM labels can be applied to a wider range of products including foil-based packaging, liquids, and metal goods — all items where RF labels typically fail.
